Follow the Chain, One Story at a Time

Every episode of The Adoption Chain adds another voice—and another link. Each guest shares their own experience with adoption, identity, family, discovery, reunion, loss, belonging, and the questions that have shaped their life. Then they introduce us to another adoptee, and the chain continues.
Donald Lepp · Broken Arrow, Oklahoma
Donald begins The Adoption Chain with his own story of learning at age fifty that he had been adopted—and the questions about family, identity, secrecy, and belonging that followed.
Scott Smith · Oklahoma

Donald’s longtime friend and fellow adoptee Scott Smith becomes the second link in the chain, sharing his own experience and helping begin the journey from one adoptee to the next.

INSIDE THE STORIES

The Conversations Go Where Real Life Goes

Adoption can touch nearly every part of a person’s understanding of themselves. The Adoption Chain creates room for conversations that are complicated, personal, funny, painful, surprising, and sometimes unresolved.

IDENTITY & DISCOVERY

Who am I? Where did I come from? What happens when new information changes the story you have always been told about yourself?

The conversations may explore late discovery, DNA results, family secrets, ancestry, culture, and the search for answers.

FAMILY & BELONGING

Adoption can create more than one definition of family.

Guests may talk about adoptive parents, biological relatives, siblings, reunion, separation, loyalty, connection, and what it means to belong.

GRIEF, HUMOR & HEALING

There is no requirement that an adoption story be either tragic or inspirational.

The chain makes room for loss, anger, gratitude, confusion, laughter, healing—and the contradictions that often exist between them.
